Hello All,
I've been messing with a Dell Dimension 4100 the past couple of weeks. These used to be all over the place. I remember our computer lab at college was filled with these machines running Windows NT 4 and Debian...
Specs:
-Pentium 3 Coppermine 1 Ghz
-512 MB of RAM (upgraded from 256 MB)
-DVD Drive
-CD-RW Drive
-Zip 250
-160 GB 7200 RPM IDE Hard Drive (I replaced this, I believe the original was 20 GB)
-SoundBlaster AudioPCI / Ensoniq sound card
-3.5" floppy drive
For the OS, the computer dual-boots Windows ME and CentOS 6. I used Windows ME simply because I never have before. It is also what was originally included with the computer because I have a CD key sticker on the side. I threw the Linux install on there because it is handy to have a machine around with legacy ports, networking, and the Linux CLI tools sometimes.
For the video I wanted to do something interesting. I installed a 3D Prophet 4500 32 MB (Kyro II) alongside a Voodoo 2. The idea is that I can use the Voodoo 2 for older Glide stuff and the Kyro II for most everything else.
I haven't spent time benchmarking yet, but everything seems to be working. Running Unreal Tournment, I am getting framerates in the upper-40s on the Voodoo 2 @ 800x600x16 and the mid-70s on the Kyro II at 1024x768x32.
