Probably this has been discussed before, but I can't find the threads, so apologies for duplicating something that's already settled.

I've got a system that runs Windows 3.1x under DOSBox, complete with printing, clipboard transfer, easy file-copying, etc. You have to supply your own Windows 3.1x installer, but the rest is automatic:

http://www.columbia.edu/~em36/win31dosbox.html

Under Windows 7/8/10 it uses an S3 driver with 32K colors at 1024x768 by default.

I'm now trying to move this over to the Mac, and the only color setting I can find that produces accurate colors is the 256-color setting.

Is there a setting or a driver that makes it possible to use more colors with Windows 3.1x running under DOSBox on a Mac? Thanks for any information, and apologies again if I'm asking something that everyone else already knows about.

in theory, if you're using a standard dosbox build, it should be the same as in windows

check your config file, the video card should be svga_s3

Thank you - the problem here was user-stupidity. I was using a conf file designed for another DOSBox-based system. As soon as I changed the machine to saga_s3 and output from surface to opengl, colors worked correctly. Thank you again, and I really should have known better than to waste bandwidth on this one.
