This can be tricky. The modules were normally not used on the VLB or ISA versions of this card, but they were used fairly often on the PCI version. Normally the most economical way to get one is to buy a PCI card with the expansion, and swap it. Unfortunately, there are several different versions of the upgrade, and only a few of them work on the ISA/VLB version. You should probably try to pay close attention to the part numbers.

To be honest, it's not really worth the upgrade on the ISA version, because anything above 1024x768 will be too slow to use.

Hey that's awesome and what exactly do you expect us to do/change about it?
I learned in school that a call for help usually begins with a question. I don't see one here.

I never understood why to upgrade memory of any isa video card. They are not fast enough to run anything at higher resolutions that would require more memory. Generally even 512Kb is more than enough for any isa video card.

For gaming you are correct, but certainly back in the day when these things were current. gaming was very much a niche thing on PCs (people used SNES or Amiga for that). Most PC graphics was about the Windows desktop. With Windows 3.11, 1MB meant 800x600@16b or 640x480@24b, 2MB meant 1024x768@16b or 800x600@24b, but for 1024x768@24b/32b you needed 4MB. That is why an upgrade to 2MB almost always made sense, and anyone doing anything requiring true colour could use 4MB too.

You would have to go right to the end of the PCI VGA era before gaming could use 4MB sensibly let alone something more, but even back in the very early 1990s the extra RAM made sense on ISA or VLB (if you could afford it) for productivity, which was why people bought PCs in the first place in those days...

the adaptor on the left is for an old atari, going isa is the only solution unfortunately, the adaptor converts isa to a format the atari can understand. i was under the impression that all pci cards using vram and not dram, i will do some more digging,

Your card uses VRAM memory. Non the less you need an expansion card with the same memory configuration. Only an early PCI version used the same memory. Later ones are not compatible.

Is it useful? I don't know. This card is the fastest performing ISA card for Windows and I'm yet to try how it performs with 4MB at higher resolutions/color depths.

there are some cards that do interleaving - the WD ones come to mind so 1MB does make a difference. But other than that I have not witnessed anything else of that sort.

ISA MACH32 was the fastest Windows graphic card in 1992, as in 2 times faster than Vesa Local Bus S3 901. You dont need fast bus when all graphic assets are sitting inside cards memory, whole point of graphic accelerator is offloading calculations away from CPU.
