I found this motherboard today super socket 7 , soyo 5ema+ rev1.1 . (it came with an amd k6-2 475mhz.)

when i boot, it says.... starting ms-dos and gives symbols all over and crashes.
I thought it was memory, changed memory with lots of sticks and same happes.
Then i thought it was the HDD, but no, if i leave only a cdrom with hirens boot-cd, i might get the hirens menu but if i select anything in menu...it crashes.
then i tried with another CPU a pentium 133mhz, and it reaches to "starting ms-dos" and does nothing, stays like that forever.

i have reset bios, changed many configs and nothing worked.
looking at the caps none is bulging. Has anyone ever experienced this? would changing all the 1000uf 6.3v capacitors fix it?
or might be another component that just broke?

or i need a new PCI to IDE card controller'?

Try changing the graphics card. If that doesn't help let the cpu run slower at 66mhz fsb, if that helps go from there..if not: It can also be a bad (not clean) connection (memory slot, agp slot, cpu socket).
Bios reset can also work.

Otherwise a recap might help.

no luck yet.

i have done this so far
1)clean memory slots
2) use other memory sticks
3) clean the cpu socket
4) use different videocards agp & pci
5) Replaced the bigger caps with new ones , about nine 1000uf 6.3v
6) FLASHED newer bios with an external flasher.

still has the problems... i tested it connecting a hard drive that has win98 installed in it. It kind of slowly boots from hard drive and then shows the win98 boot logo but shows corrupted always and crashes.

i wonder if the smaller capacitors can be the cause, since the board is full of smaller caps.
and i would like to see if it is possible to boot the machine using one of those Adaptec PCI IDE cards instead of the built in controller.
Not sure what chip is the one that is in charge of the IDE
