You can also try hard disk compression (DoubleSpace/DriveSpace etc)..
That way, I got WfW 3.11 to install on a 16MiB DOM once (that DOM was preinstalled in one of my thin clients before I replacet it with a CF adapter).

Anyway, the original Win95 was about 40MiB in since (remember, it came on 1,44MB floppies, too!).
I remember installing it on old Conner drives somewhen in the 1990s (386 PCs).

Good luck getting *any* software running on that, as you'll have hundreds of missing DLLs. That's just a (nice) proof-of-concept, but not a usable OS.

98lite is perfectly useable but as you add in things (like networking) the OS increases in size, same with directX. I use a 98lite box all the time, never had a missing DLL but did have it demand the 98cd to install things causing bloat.

For those who want networking but want to keep a small size you need to use “other”networking options like you would with Windows 3.1.

I had the same issue on my t5710 and it was a no-go even on 256mb of storage. By the time I had enough installed for it to run as intended I would be out of storage. Most of these thinclients have 44-pin ide flash modules from apacer so for me buying a $10 2GB module was the better solution.

I already have an ide 44 to sd adapter, but its male, as the motherboard connector, and I cant find a female female 44 ide cable anywhere in my country, and aliexpress is canceling me my orders. All in all, it seems i wont have the cable for a long time.

Clean minimal install @ Win95a=26mb (maybe even less possible).
Clean minimal install @ Win95b=39mb (maybe even less possible).

Sorry to pick this up, but Wn95a or Win95b is possible @ 64mb. I used fdd version of Windows 95a or b and @ Win95b or OSR2 it is better to remove some unneeded junk from setup first to get more space, but without it, it was also possible. Without drvspace i did get Win95b + directx 6.1 to install, but no space was left for all dri vers. I used then drvspace3 compression that is available to install with Windows 95 plus and Win95b has it without windows 95 plus. Now i have Win95b +Directx7a + all drivers installed and still free space left. Games are installed to usb 2.0 stick or from network storage. I thin with compression it is maybe possible to install Win95a to a 32mb hdd with all drivers and older directx, 64mb has plenty storage space, i have hp t5300 and hp t5520.

Long story short, use compression to fit all needed stuff, mainly directx + all drivers. After compression 64mb hdd became ~119mb hard drive.
