Hi!
I've some problems with mousesupport in "Der Patrizier"/"The patrician".

Short: mouse doesn't work.
Long: last year it worked fine. However I had to use an extra mousedriver "CTMouse". Now CTMouse gives a short "Error: Mouse not found". I don't know which version of dosbox worked. In addition I don't know if it's a problem related to dosbox, kernel, or ....

Dosbox 0.63
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3000+
OS: Debian Linux
Mouse: USB

Any ideas?
Carsten

It has stopped working the moment Canadacow added his "serial passthrough support". He has also switched from serial mouse emulation to ps/2 mouse emulation. I don't know what was the reason for it. The only change I see is that "The Patrician" no longer has mouse cause we no longer can use mouse drivers in dosbox...

Can any Dosbox developer tell the reason for this change in Dosbox?

mouse emulation has always been ps/2

there were rumors to replace it with serial as windows in enhanched mode at first didn't seem to like our ps/2 emulation. But i fixed that.

Yeah, PS/2 is the way to go as far mice are concerned. Never had any problems with it.
some people could argue that USB is better, but I prefer to save it for other purposes.

OK, it works.
You just have to set
directserial=true
in dosbox.conf

This way mouse drivers work as they did before directserial was implemented.

So I have mouse in The Patrician (german title: Der Patrizer) 😀

(oh, and you don't need to have a real serial mouse 😉 )

hmm so disabling the direct serial breaks a game.
Never heard of that one. I wonder why that goes this way....

german game, german title ... 😀

However it doesn't work. Setting directserial=true changed nothing.
In addition dosboxwiki at http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php? … %2Fdirectserial says:

directserial = true | false
Enable serial passthrough support (Win32 only at the moment).

A real problem for me ... 😎

ctmouse.exe driver won't work
I have used my old mouse.com driver
And you have to press Ctrl-F10 after the game starts.

Qbix: It doesn't break a game. It breaks support for mouse drivers.

i see.
well the update of direct serial support removed the default 2 comports of dosbox.
Thinking of restoring them if directserial is false.

why does the patrician need a mousedriver anyway ?

With directserial and old mousedriver I've the problem that the mousewindow ist bigger as the gamewindow. It's possible to move mouse left and right out of the screen.
Moving the mouse out of the lower border, the curser returns from upper border. In this case it's impossible to use the mouse to click. First I've to move it back throug upper to lower border ...

I just recently bought the game on CD and having trouble going through the installation.

It is a game I enjoyed playing several years ago and would like to have it operating on my laptop in an XP environment.

Can someone simply the set up instructions for me to install and operate the game.

Thanks.

Yeah Finally fixed the mouse problem (never had the game).
Works in versions of dosbox >0.63

no need anymore for an external mouse program
it had some obscure behavior.
