Create a directory for your game, e.g. "C:\DOSBox stuff\Arena".
Start DOSBox.
In DOSBox, mount up DOSBox's drive C: and D:
Z:>mount C "C:\DOSBox stuff\Arena" Z:>mount D "C:\path\to\your\unpacked\download\of\arena" -t cdrom
Install the game from D: to C:
Z:>D: D:>install
(or "setup", or whatever the command to start the installation is called. Check your Manual/Installation Guide for Arena for the exact command to use)
Configure sound, configure graphics, ...
(when you configure sound and are asked about stuff like IO/IRQ/DMA/High DMA addresses, please verify that you use the same values as listed in "%ProgramFiles%\DOSBox-0.63\dosbox.conf")
Start game.
D:>C: C:>dir C:>cd arena C:>dir C:>arena106
(or "run", or "play" or whatever the command to start the game is called. Check your Manual/Installation Guide for Arena for the exact command to use)

* Puzzled * All I get is a blank screen?
I downloaded the game, unpacked it, and (contrary the setup document provided by Qbix) mounted up the unpack directory as C: in DOSBox, and ran the INSTALL.EXE from DOSBox.
Note: Do not use the INSTALL'er to actually install the game. Only use INSTALL.EXE to verify/change the sound/music setup. This will update SOUND.CFG and re-create the ARENA.BAT with the appropriate command line arguments.
Next I ran ARENA.BAT, the DOSBox screen goes blank/black - and then NOTHING!?!
Re-configured with no sound/no music. Did not help.
Tried full and dynamic core. No change.
In summary: I can not get it to work. Any takers?
Update: Searched the forum (which I should have done first - doh!) and used DOSBox 0.61 instead. Works!!!
(i 'm the 1 who posted the above msg, don't know why it says 'guest' , thus could not edit it)
when i mount c :
z:\>mount c:\JeuxDosBox\Arena106
it answers directory c:\JeuxDosBox\Arena106 does not exist
(same thing with Arena)
i did it before though, can't remember how exactly
it also said cd command ko ( ? )
when i did
mount d:\c:\JeuxDosBox\Arena
it says "Usage Mount Drive-Letter Local-Directory
so a mount c c:\windows mounts windows directory as the c: drive in dos box"
look like information only, did it do it or not ?
then d: [enter]
makes a "Drive D does not exist! "
(... :'( )
*edit* after a restart i realized i've got an arena file in c:\ so a part of it worked, can't figure out when 😀
is there a way i can paste in dos box? , ctrl+v does not work
I know I got the CD-ROM version working under DOSBox, which is pretty much the same thing AFAIK. It was a bit taxing on my computer though, running a fine line between choppy graphics (due to less cycles than the game wanted) and full CPU usage (due to more cycles than my CPU could handle). Can't remember whether it was on my old Athlon XP 2600+ or my new 3200+.

I do not know why DOSBox 0.61 suddenly refused to run Arena 1.06, and the reboot did not solve it either.
Anyway, Arena 1.06 seems to work consistenly with 0.60, sometimes with 0.61, and never(?) with 0.62, 0.63 nor with a CVS build from April 10.
As I said in the previous post, I downloaded the self-extracting SFX RAR file Arena106.exe containing "The Elder Scrolls: Arena v1.06", ran it, and extracted the content into an Arena game directory (I:\Downloads\Arena\Unpacked-1.06).
The extraction process created an extra directory named "ARENA" so I ended up with the following directory structure:
i did :
mount c c:\arena
it did mount it :=)
arena command works and install too to config sound and music, left by default
then i added a command at the end of dos box :
mount c c:\JeuxDosBox
c:
so that i begin Dos Box with a C: invite
but my new pb is :
Arena [enter] now says illegal command
+ mount c c:\arena makes a 'drive c already mounted with c:\JeuxDosBox', here is normal i know
what to play now, shall i go inside tha arena directory?
DIR works but cd arena doe not, neither arena alone
When you did a "Mount c c:\Arena", I'm assuming that the ARENA directory was on your host C: drive?
When you did a "Mount c c:\JeuxDosBox", this JeuxDosBox (Geesh, long ass thing to type), is on your c:\ drive too?
Most people create either a C:\DosBox directory or a C:\Games directory and then put all of their games in that.
In your case
HOST SYSTEM
C:\DosBox\Arena
DosBox
Mount c c:\Dosbox
Then DIR ARENA to see the ARENA directory
and cd ARENA to enter the ARENA directory.
It seems like you may be better off with a DosBox FrontEnd like D-FEND. I don't use frontends so I can't help ya there but there purpose is to make things easier for those who don't know the command line very well.
yep everything asked for was on C: , i rename my directory DosBox 😀 and put Arena into it
i did what u said :
in Dos box Mount c c:\Dosbox
Then DIR ARENA to see the ARENA directory
and cd ARENA to enter the ARENA directory.
then arena
it WORKS 😀 plus sound too !! thanks A LOT
what's the full screen option again ? i read it, somwhere here, but can't find it anymore
where do i find tips on the game, i've been killed by the 1st goblin 😳
ok, it does work now
though i still need to find how t o fight gobelins 😀
i tried another one : alone in the dark
it works too , i ran a go.bat file (kindof an intro to the game? )but then it stops...
**edit** then took the 0.63 DOS BOX instead of .61 and its much better : sound, game plays OK now 😉
though a stupid strange dog kills me... kindof immediatly 😀
still a pb with little big adventure 2 :
mounted c:\
mounted d ...-t cdrom
but the lba2 asks for a cdrom ... didn' i just mount it ?

hmm try selecting regular soundblaster for sound.
I just finish a session where I tried to select sb1, sb2, sbpro1, ..... instead of sb16, but the result is the same: 0.60 is like Old Faithful - works like a charm every time. 0.61 worked once, and then stopped. 0.62/0.63 never worked.
