Hi all,
I am a 3Dfx fan, my retro computer runs a v5 5500 & Win2K. I am also a massive fan of Deus EX!
There are some great versions of Deus Ex like: GMDX & Revision. They basically enhance Deus Ex within the confines of the original engine. I really wanted to get either of these mods working under 3Dfx Glide, so I could experience these great mods on my retro machine - but it isn't simple!
* They both use custom launchers, I think both use a version of Kentie's launcher: https://kentie.net/article/dxguide/ - which is an amazing Launcher, but does not support anything below XP SP3 & .NET etc. I tried using an older version but just couldn't get the thing to work properly. I sent an email to Kentie to see if he could make a version that didn't require modern XP libraries etc but I don't think I ever got a response. I also tried patching my XP with that custom kernel stuff but it didn't make a difference. I tried XP but it just didn't work well with my hardware at all, so had to go back to 2K. (I love 2K btw, my favourite OS)
* I think some things are re-skinned with high resolution textures, specifically the binoculars / scope in GMDX. I got GMDX working once in OpenGL mode which allowed for the higher resolution scope sillouette overlay, but this would crash to desktop in Glide (even when using a Glide2 to Glide3 translator DLL which technically should have worked with higher res textures, but who knows)
Anyhow - I surely must not be the only person on the planet who has attempted this, or am I really that bonkers? I just want a 'new' Deus Ex experience on my retro hardware 😁 Is there anyone out there with more expertese than me that may be able to make this dream a reality?
Cheers!
