Hello

I have a motherboard with pentium 2o0 mmx
The problem I have is that the cpu fans make a lot of noise.
Does it work fine if getting really hot with a single heatsink? No fan?

I had thought to put only the heatsink like this: (CPU Socket A 60x65mm)

I would just use a quieter fan like a 60mm Noctua: https://noctua.at/en/products/fan/nf-a6x25-flx

I use one on my Pentium 133 and it's incredibly quiet. With the case closed I can only hear the PSU fan.

It was still a low TDP CPU, somewhere around 16W I think. It's not impossible to keep it cool without a fan. If the heatsink is big enough.

I replaced my PS fan with a newer quieter one (Noctua NF-R8 redux-1800) cause the stock 25+year old one was too damned loud. Now it's nice and quiet

I've successfully used the resistor solutions above (both a prebuilt adapter and DIY version) to quiet down old fans, including a very noisy fan on a Pentium II. If you do that or decide to try removing the fan you should pay attention to the temperature for a good while under increasing load to make sure it doesn't get hot.
