Hello there.

I've Gigabyte - Nvidia GeForce FX 5700 running on Windows 98SE. How to see the gpu's temperature on this OS? Is there any tool to check the temperature of those cards on Win98SE?

CPU-Z didn't report it. GPU-Z doesn't work on Windows 98SE.

Thanks.

Maybe, does nvcpl.dll exist (I think it will be in C:\Winsows\System\) and contain NvCplGetThermalSettings()? If so then I suspect I could adjust my SIV utility to report both the temperatures.

Currently it should report the current clocks, does it?

I guess nvcpl.dll may be NT4/W2K/WXP only and without it the only option would be to directly read the hardware, but I have no idea where to read the temperatures from.

Do you have any of NT4/W2K/WXP also installed and if so does nvcpl.dll exist and/or is the temperature reported?

I installed WinXP -temporarily-, CPU-Z, GPU-Z and Nvidia Control Panel don't give any temperature info for the GPU, at all.

Tried SIV utility as well;

By the way, VCore Voltage seems 1.60V for my CPU. Is this normal for a proc: Pentium 1.8A - 1.8 Ghz model SL63X 512 KB Cache? (Because SIV utility reports it in "red")

And CPU fan under SIV is reported as: 0 RPM, but BIOS supplies that info correctly; 2596 RPM.

Clearly Fan 2 is the CPU fan and I expect SIV reported Fan 1. Basically I need to adjust SIV to report Fan 2 as the CPU Fan. Please do Menu->File->Save Local and post to two generated files so I can adjust this and test the change. Please also post a screen shot of what the BIOS monitoring screen reports.

The CPU Core voltage is what the W83697HF reports and I suspect this is correct, but would need to check the save file to figure out why SIV defaulted to showing it in red. What does Menu->Tools->Configure->Highlight Setup report for the VIN voltages? If you change these and press [Apply] or [Save] the colour should change.

Given the GPU-0 P12 SIV must be using NVAPI rather than NVCPL. If you do SIV32X -NONVAPI then SIV should use NVCPL to try and get the temperature, does it succeed? If so I will adjust SIV in light of this.

The red blob to the right of Disks means SMART is reporting errors. Press the red blob then the right most push button to show all the SMART information.

Hi again red-ray,

I've attached the files/screenshots you requested. Hope they'll be useful for improving SIV.

I've also attached the screenshot when using -NONVAPI. Seems nothing changed? (It reports my card as 'GeForce FX 5963' instead of FX 5700)

And regarding the red blob to the right of disks, I attached "smart.jpg" file showing the screenshot of that part - seems no errors?

Thanks.

It still says P12 so for some reason it's still using NVAPI, check Menu->Machine->GPU Info and it will still report NVIDIA NVAPI Library, Version 175.19 C:\WINDOWS\system32\nvapi.dll V6.14.11.7519.

Press the [UDMA 100] button and you should see Uncorrectable Error Count + Re-allocated Sector Count are none zero.

Looking at the BIOS screen shot VCore is also 1.60 volts. Give me an hour and I will hope to post a test SIV32X that does better.

Have you tried using an early version of MSI Afterburner or (if it reads temps) RiveTuner? Overclocking apps tend to also be able to check temps when hardware allows it.

HWMonitor (again, an early, Win9x compatible version) can also display temps.

See my graphics card database at www.gpuzoo.com
Constantly being worked on. Feel free to message me with any corrections or details of cards you would like me to research and add.

Sorry for the delay, it took me a while to deduce how it came up with 5963, I now know why and hope I have fixed it in the attached SIV32X 5.69 S800-00 test SIV, have I?

It should also fix the CPU Fan reporting, but I can't guess as to why SIV32X -NONVAPI still used NVAPI. I tried it on this system and NVAPI was not used. What does [About] report as the Command Used?

file.php?id=155110

The root cause of the FX 5963 is SIV needing to change such as 7001 USB OHCI Host Controller to 963 USB OHCI Host Controller as SiS use the same PCI Device ID for different chipsets, press [PCI Bus] then [PCI Info] to see the Stock Device Description to Resolved Device Description mappings.

Thanks for the updated version, I've attached the screenshots once again here.

It seems my gpu is correctly identified and CPU fan speed is correctly reported now! However, still no GPU temperature there.

And it doesn't really matter much but CPU core voltage is still in red.

Thank you.

I'll give them both a try. Thanks a lot for those suggestions.

Thank you for checking out the changes. To change the CPU Core colour update the voltages to say 1610 + 1620 then press [Save].

Now -NONVAPI is working no GPU information at all was displayed 🙁. This was triggered by the Chipset ID being 436 rather than 036 and cid rather than ( 0x01FF & cid ) being used in a check.

I have adjusted SIV32X 5.69 Beta-00, when -NONVAPI is specified what does Menu->Machine->GPU Info report?

I just found https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/results/19104/ and wonder if it manages to report the temperatures, I have never used it.

From SIV32X 5.69 Beta-01 temperature reporing works for my ASUS GeForce FX 5700 on Windows XP SP3, does it for your Gigabyte FX 5700?

file.php?id=155774

I also noticed my FX 5700 is running @ AGP x8, but yours was in PCI mode and am wondering why.

Nvidia driver version: 53.04

Why an old version? The latest is ForceWare Release 80 81.98 December 21, 2005
