Some of the tests, the Merom clearly massacres the Tualatin. Some tests, though, it's surprisingly close... I wonder how a P3-M 1200, to match the L2 cache, and get the FSB closer, would do.

Hold up, if the Teradrive has a dedicated EMS page frame in its stock memory map... that means that you'd need to configure EMS in whatever that thing has for CMOS configuration. You also won't be able to use the Lo-Tech EMS card, unless you disable the built-in EMS. I wonder which type of EMS is …

The only way I can see that card being useful on a 286 like that is if you use it to fill in upper memory blocks, and then use third-party tools to load things into those UMBs, freeing up conventional memory elsewhere. Be aware that the UMB memory would be slower, though.

Also note that you may have to mess with the BIOS config a fair amount to disable booting from the onboard IDE controller, to make it use the option ROM. But, only way to find out is to try it.

Not really, and AFAIK by the time the XT came out, all of the Intel 8088s were fixed. (But, because IBM was dual-sourcing 8088s, Intel and AMD chips were about equally common.)

Those were a thing back then, basically laptop components in a desktop keyboard. Note that that one is a Cx486SLC - not exactly what I'd go for if I were looking for something between 486 and Pentium era.

Ah, I didn't realize the low-end ones dropped the parallel port, I've got an old HL-2070N (which has a few other tricks up its sleeve that the newer printers lack - IBM ProPrinter XL and Epson FX-850 emulation, in addition to PCL5e).

LBP-660 seems to be primarily a GDI printer, with a mediocre PCL implementation. Personally, I like Brother's low-end lasers, although make sure you get one that actually claims PCL (or BR-Script, which is PostScript) support.

Ah, point, MPC1 did allow straight VGA. I should've specified the addition of SVGA (which was recommended). However, it required Sound Blaster, not Adlib, so digital sound was required. True, only one channel of it, needing software mixing if you wanted more than one, but... And, it required a 386SX …

Nehemiah reports no L2 in the normal MSR for that, even when it's enabled, so that's normal for it to report none. (And then there's the Samuel 2 that I've got, that reports 16 MiB in that MSR, when it's actually only got 64 kiB.)

Try reseating the RAM. If that doesn't work, your first two modules of RAM are suspect. As an aside, the second Pentium will only work under a multiprocessor-capable OS - for Windows, that means NT/2000/XP (anything newer than XP probably won't run).
