Re: List of Win9x games with surround sound support

Tried out a few more: Total Annihilation – Supports 4 speaker surround. In the Sound menu, set “Sound Mode” to “3D”. Retail CD, no patch required. Jurassic Park: Trespasser – Supports 4 speaker surround. In the Sound menu, check the “3D Audio Accel. Enabled” option. Retail CD, no patch required. …

Re: What game are you playing now?

Under a Killing Moon: It's been a long time since I played through this, but I must have beaten it a dozen times back in the mid 90s. That probably explains why I remembered so much of it despite the long break, though I did still consult the built-in hint system a few times when I got stuck. Good, …

Re: List of Win9x games with surround sound support

Cool. I’d be interested to know if you experience the same behavior. I’ve got a set of Logitech X-540’s and Z906’s for comparison. I’ve pretty much gone through all the CD based games I have (at least those you hadn’t listed yourself) that are supposed to have some sort of surround sound. All the …

Re: List of Win9x games with surround sound support

Tested a few more over the weekend: Powerslide – supports at least 5.1 surround. Enable “3D Sound” in-game Drakan: Order of the Flame – supports at least 5.1 surround. You need to launch the “Riot Engine Options” outside the game, go to the audio tab, and enable “Use 3D Sound Buffers”. You can also …

Re: List of Win9x games with surround sound support

Tested a few more: BloodRayne – supports at least 5.1 (enable 3D acceleration in-game) Heretic II – supports 4 speaker surround (requires the 1.04 patch, and then enable EAX in-game) Warcraft III – supports at least 5.1 (enable EAX 2.0 in-game) Soldier of Fortune – supports at least 5.1 (set sound …

Re: What game are you playing now?

I used a mouse and keyboard and didn't notice any issues with the controls. For reference, I played the GOG version on the Athlon64 system from my signature. No special tweaks or anything. Thanks for the reply. Maybe I'm going crazy, but I swear the mouse feels slightly busted in that game every …

Hey Joseph_Joestar, Did you play Sands of Time with a controller or M/KB? I only ask because I've tried playing this game multiple times on different systems over the years and have always found the mouse handling in this game to be terrible no matter what mouse I used. It's like the game doesn't …

Re: Table Fog & 8-bit Paletted Textures

I'd love to see some benchmark comparisons with these games. Some quick and dirty benchmarks if you are still interested. Unfortunately the FX series card I had was only a 5600, not the Ultra as I had originally thought. Basic system specs: Win98SE, DX8.1, Nvidia drivers 45.23 CPU: Pentium 4 (641) …

Re: YOUR favorate game era.

This might be cheating but probably the ten year period of 1996-2005. Quake and Tomb Raider were major obsessions, especially once I got my first 3DFX card. I probably spent more time making maps and levels for Duke Nukem 3D, StarCraft and Warcraft III than playing the damn games. The initial wave …

Re: Table Fog & 8-bit Paletted Textures

I haven't done any serious benchmarking before. I've only used Fraps to monitor a few games as I switched out parts until I got the performance I wanted. I can certainly run some benchmarks though. It just might take me a few days to set up everything and run them.

Re: Table Fog & 8-bit Paletted Textures

My experience with the FX series is limited. I've only used an FX5600 Ultra but even it was weak compared to a true Geforce 4 ti (4400 in my case). Games from 2000 or older ran pretty much the same, but stuff from 2002 like NOLF2 ran at half the frame rate, dipping into the low 20s on the first …
