Re: Can this Gravis Ultrasound PnP be repaired?

in Marvin \ Sound
Wow, those are some amazing tips and tutorial. Thanks a lot! 😀 Even though this seems beyond my skill level, I think I'll still try to do it myself. It's sort of part of the excitement and if successful, the satisfaction will be that much greater. I promise that I'll practice and be careful. 😁

After may months I finally got around to follow up on this. Apologies for such long delay, but it just wasn't a priority. TLDR; Good news: the card works! Bad news: the ROM does not. I've used unisound on all sorts of boards, also without a PnP BIOS and it works well. I've also put your card's …

@Mjay99 - I did try unisound and it didn't find the card. But it might have been because the motherboard doesn't have a PnP BIOS (I don't know if that's a requirement for unisound). Also, I did not yet change the ROM orientation. I actually had to put this project on hold for a while. But in the …

The joints on the 7908 as well as the 7805 (there's no 7905) seem good to me. Some cracks are apparent on the 7908 front side, but on the back of the card it looks smooth. Here are some close-up photos. Apologies for the crappy quality from my phone's camera. IMG_20220724_140532.jpg IMG_20220724_ …

Ok a quick update. I was wrong about the card being cold. I checked the VRs as suggested - they are fine and their output voltages are in spec. I also checked all the ICs for input voltage. I found the datasheet for the InterWave and checked all VCC pins. Everything receives 5V as expected. Some …

OK I finally managed to obtain and fit the missing parts (C11, C48, and 93LC66/P). I haven't touched the ROM yet. When I insert the card into the PC (which normally works), it doesn't even POST. Sadly I don't have a speaker attached to hear any error beeps, but I do see all of the keyboard lights …

Wow, this is so weird. You're right, all images of the card online have the ROM in the opposite direction. Except the one that I posted as reference! And the notch is there, just not very well visible in the lighting of that picture. Just check the top view of the card on the page from which I took …

Using this photo as reference, it looks like everything that is present on my card is in the right place and orientation. And just like on mine, the LS244 on this photo also has lighter lettering than other ICs. It's honestly very similar to my card, even to the detail of the mic connector being a …

Thank you so much for all the quick replies! This info is super helpful, and you strengthened my hope that I might get it working again. I owned this card in the '90s and have regretted getting rid of it, so I'd be thrilled to save this one and be able to enjoy it again. From the photo, it doesn't …

Can this Gravis Ultrasound PnP be repaired?

Hi everyone. I recently acquired this beat up GUS PnP and I'm wondering if it can be brought back to life. I've had trouble finding relevant information about the hardware, so I thought I'd ask here for help. From comparing the card with images online, I see the following (I marked each item in the …

Re: SLR - Launcher for DOS

Could you give some examples on some of your batch scripts? Sure. Here's one for Indy 3 which on my machine needs to have the CPU multiplier adjusted: :: Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade @echo off setmul.exe 3 cd c:\games\indy indy256.exe a setmul.exe 4 This one allows Death Rally to access its …

SLR - Launcher for DOS

Greetings to everyone in this wonderful forum. I came here to share a little program which I decided to hack together to help me easily launch programs in DOS. These are the main points describing its functionality, and maybe setting it appart from other similar utilities: Responsive interface It …
