Have you tried that gotek on another computer? Since real floppy drive works there is a chance it's defective 🤔. I haven't got any 286s so can't try, 486 is oldest I have and haven't had an issue with goteks and that one.

If I remember correctly I used fdisk and format from FreeDOS to format my 120GB SSD and install win98. It supports bigger drives without issues. Another tool mentioned is Super FDisk, but I can't say if it helps or not as I haven't used it https://www.philscomputerlab.com/storage-tools.html

Well, it works. I've soldered wires to 12V and -12V, dug out one mean well clone PSU I remembered I had, that outputs 5V, 12V and -12V, connected everything and voila, sound works 🙂
