I guess the 286 has something different. If you're running the game in a 386 CPU it won't list the 286 as a compatible CPU (but will allow 8086/8088).

Don't forget about Lucasarts adventures. All except Indy3 and Loom (which ran in 16 colours) had an option like a super eagle filter for smoother graphics, since they all ran in hi-res. This machine deserves at least a Radeon 7000. It's already a huge step comparing to the stock Rage 128. The Radeon 7000 is the easiest card to transform to Mac if you come accross a PC version and is also the most trouble-free.

Have you tried official voodoo drivers? Even those had their latest versions kinda bugged. Also try using each individual voodoo2 card at a time to see if at least one of them runs ok. The Radeon 9200LE will probably require macos9lives updated Mac OS 9.2.2 as well. I could only boot OS 8.6 without loading any drivers for it, otherwise it would freeze upon booting. Same thing happened with stock versions of 9.2.2.

Do you see any "flipped" PCI slot? If your system has such a slot, which would be a dedicated 66MHz whole bus, just go for the fastest pci card that fits on it. It has to be Universal, PCI 2.1 compatible, 3.3V and 5V.

Like you said it's only stretched on windows because the game use BitBlt, it's not possible to make High-Res unless the .pak is re-created with the new texture. It seem that they had some love for Mac, but Fredéric Raynal didn't like mac that much, he's more PC Oriented, i sadly got no response …
