It would be AGP 4x/8x, which is fine as there are 4X, if not 8x, super7 boards. Mind you, even though newer GPUs offload more, they need a strong enough cpus and bandwidth to keep them fully fed, which a k6/s7 system wouldn't come close. As the threads I added show, even xp & p4 systems fall short …

It comes down to the FPU. Change to a newer video card which offloads more and it becomes less of an issue.

80plus rated power supply. More efficient, quieter, can be found on ebay. Also search for the 5/7v fan mod.

The K6-x fpu is around half the performance if I recall, so if you can get it running at 600 MHz, you're matching the PMMX @ 300 FPU-wise, and should be faster overall from the much faster integer performance.

What he's saying is by following the guide for installation it will run correctly the first time. Checking the resource file is to confirm this, which he's suggesting in his post here, not the guide.

On that basis, look to the program(s) you want to run; if the old hardware is sufficient enough to run those program(s,) then it still has value for those tasks.

MT-32 emulation is cpu intensive and dosbox isn't threaded, so using munt is better for multi-core/cpu since it will take advantage of more than one core/cpu from being a separate process.

I was curious if there was something missing from the XGA emulation that 8514/a windows 3.11 default drivers don't work, since I thought XGA was a superset of the 8514/a, or am I mistaken?

In simple words it gives partial directx to virtual machines. It's a wrapper translating directx calls to opengl calls. The host only needs opengl. As dosfreak has pointed out, there is opengl for linux guests.
