A user uploaded gallery of screenshots for each card showing its output in a game could be a good idea. PNG format enforced though, to showcase how the card dithers, etc.

Pentiums do have problems with some older games 486s do not have. Blackthorne is one of them. Installed Z CD through v0.73, used Sound Blaster 16, said NO to force UniVBE in the install, and did 'new game'. No problem, works fine here (in both VGA and SVGA).

Quake isn't THAT demanding. An average machine can DOSBox it with the playability of a Pentium 200. Armored Fist 2 (MMX dependency), Bethesda XNGINE games in SVGA, WW2GI (1999 retail DOS Build game!) and Extreme Assault are the most demanding games I know of.

Considering how early and lame LAMEDUKE is, you'll not have any luck with the SVGA. It's not made for that (status bars are only for 320x200)

Use Buffered VGA for Lameduke. It works fine with 20,000 cycles (roughly 486dx2 66mhz speed)

Strictly staying SVGA? Then the best solution atm is to buy a better CPU. Quake has several native ports for several operating systems. wq100.zip is a good start for the software verison of WinQuake. Darkplaces is a technical glitter paradise.

Well for one thing, certain onboard AC'97-based audio chipsets get upset if the mixing rate isn't 48000Hz due to poor resampling from the driver's end.

your geforce card is running in a fullscreen 8-bit mode. It disagrees with this color depth so it'll slug down immensly. Only other way is to go windowed, or use a different output mode that's not surface.
