i'd use a geforce2 gts and some old drivers Pentium IIIs aren't Pentium IIs/K6-2's so it shouldn't struggle much with the 2001 crowd of games.

Try changing output mode to something that isn't surface, like try overlay (Rage II has good support for that). The card is too old for OpenGL though so forget about using those. This is an SDL issue

Creative sucks. Period. It has always sucked and it will always suck. I agree the company and it's practices suck. But it can make decent hardware from time to time. you're probably playing the demo on a mismatched version it's not intended for. technically it's a non-dosbox issue
