I was tempted to make a similar list on the open source side of things the other day to prove some point. I know a large amount of them have migrated to SDL2 or a newer GCC and some have some modern bullshit claim to their regressions

HL's old menu system was notoriously buggy even on Win9x. There are no fixes besides getting Steam and playing their updated Half-Life on that platform as that has a new, bit more bulletproof menu system.

That certain "abandonware" site is revising history again. MS-DOS 6 CD releases don't legally exist. It doesn't exist in a bootable form either. You're talking freaking DOS, an OS without a CD-ROM driver of its own, to be isntalled from disc. On a fresh system, that's impossible without a boot disk …

At that point you're just posterizing to RGB666 and needing to lookup from a larger strict palette (and you can't really dynamically generate a 256-color palette with a shader). It could be done, but many of those games that use fullscreen flash effects would look ugly with it.

don't think about those 52x+ drives. That was my last rule of thumb for CD-ROM drives. There was a widespread fear about those physically destroying discs. Many manufacturers put out 48x drives during that time. My go-to brand WAS Creative.

Because it's 2018 and this is a renderer overhaul to use OGRE with new art data. It's being sold to a 2018 market which should have 64-bit adoption well enough by now since hitting the budget consumer mainstream in 2005.

DOSbox emulates a Trio64 with a fake VBE. I'm just saying there's no real need to go past 2MB in the context of dos gaming. The few games that do support 1280x1024 only do so in 256 colors.

Only for the Voodoo it's an extension (WGL_3DFX_gamma_control). Otherwise, it'll call SetDeviceGammaRamp (and XF86VidModeSetGamma on Linux (which btw was regressed for at least a decade and i've had to put up with so much grief over this regression it's not funny))
