I've had some old (1992-94) games that ImgBurn couldn't clone properly but CloneDVD can so there's the preference of software to watch out for.

There's been plenty of old scene rips of booter games since the 80s that would dump the disk to some bin file and have a little loader program to go with it (where a nice cracktro would also go) sometimes with an additional function to quit back to dos.

It'll be forced to 16-bit on the Voodoo3 no matter what you do or what the settings looks like. Voodoo4/5 is when 32-bit first comes into play for 3dfx. Different dithering may work better but I don't think you can change that on Voodoo3, I don't have mine installed so couldn't say. . Only the …

Well you can't compile PCem on a Pi as x86 architectures are required (can't compile with interpreters only currently), and you can't run VirtualBox on a Pi, so I think we can safely rule out the Pi....

They'll only show up if you have an Endeavor, Advanced/EV or 430VX bios. Pentium Overdrives also show up for the 486s

I use GCC 4.7.2 to compile new Windows 95 stuff. Engoo however was built with Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 + MASM and DJGPP for DOS.

I still think parts are simple (more so today than in 199x). It's just the usual OS is overboard with the bloat these days needing hundreds of 'services' etc... I don't have to keep a bag of jumpers with my PCs in ages or think about cache modules/chips or how to layout SCSI/IDE ribbons or *shudder* …

I'd give up on this as the Pi3 doesn't have enough juice to give the cycles Daggerfall wants (which would be something like 60000-230000 AT LEAST). and considering there is no dynarec on the Dosbox for Pi....

"better" being vertical-only bilinear filtering on walls. It's still software rendering with palette ramps and the like and still doesn't bring true 3D and it'll regress voxel sprites as well. You're better off running jfSW in OpenGL on a Voodoo2.

Probably the other early Build games (legend of 7 paladins, witchaven, tekwar, etc). Crystal Eyes is still in the engine for the later ones but it's busted.

The only real problem of Half-Life is that it'll spoil the feel of every other single-player FPS in the following year. Also I never liked Unreal Gold's gratuitous Uwindow menus and the patch cruft (no more dispersion trails, the sonic mayhem sounds etc)...
