Getting Battlezone II(TM)(C)ACTIVISION(R)1999(TM)(TM)(ATARI(R) vibes from that and the zoom rect (could use some kind of curvy bar to the side of the weapon graphic as ammo)

IIRC that list is all Direct3D through and through, with different presets for the 1997-era hardware at the time. Turok did similar for its Direct3D backend

I76 Gold/Nitro's Glide backend is only really made for 2MB tmem'd voodoo cards (Voodoo Graphics) and have texture panics on anything more, including Voodoo2s

I mained 1280x1024 in 2001, and 1600x1200 was already being pushed by new video cards in mid-late 98, and PC gaming didn't stop at a PSX port less detailed than Descent II mostly known for the big naked and the big numbers, so...

I'd use some loader like XFDisk for this to work since W9x always will want a primary partition of its own and a bootloader's necessary to hide the other primaries to get the other to boot. 2000 however can live happily on an extended partition with the loader put on a primary.

eh, quake on a high-end 486 was fine. that's how I beat it (and even played online). 11-20fps was perfectly acceptable in the day. DX33 on the other hand i won't even think about it. Descent should be enough of a wake-up call. Duke3D IIRC was much about the sudden on-demand disk access getting in …
