Re: Washed out colors in Windows 3.

in Windows
Win 3.0 had a different VGA palette in its driver IIRC. Win3.1's VGA driver uses the palette everyone knows (And the other VGA driver became an alternate choice in some MMPACK that some OEMS ship sometimes)

Re: Washed out colors in Windows 3.

The stock VGA driver's palette is generally brighter/less saturated than what you'd get on any other higher color depth driver. This is perfectly normal, real behavior and also is the same deal on any newer Windows (that maybe isn't 10). Also, the oft-recommended S3 video driver (mostly recently …

Re: Lithtech game performance

The whole 'better on VooDoo!!!' reputation's mainly about the Glide API use in a game with a relatively poorly implemented D3D/GL renderer module (UnrealEngine1) or just vs. software, or that default gamma/filter killing dither a bit. In Shogo it shouldn't take any particular 3dfx-related advantages …

Re: PCEm. Another PC emulator.

Basically it provides a closer to original hardware experience. If that's not what you're after though, then there's no reason to prefer it over DOSBox. One plain DOS game PCem definitely handles better than DOSBox is the Thor series :) DOSBox's keyboard code sends that into gamebreaking territory …

Getting the 2002 Cinemaware 'digitally remastered' vibes from this :| The pixel aspect's also not taken into consideration for the new art (the original C&C was 320x200, the Win95 ver was 640x400 native) The hues don't match either. RIP bright red structure paint The real question is though........ …

Re: Boxedwine (Wine on multiple platforms)

I just tried that september build out with my game that I don't want to show much of. I'm surprised how far this has come so quickly! (Had to run this in Wine 1.7 instead of 4.0 for some reason. Also vertex shader extensions couldn't work, and there's no color control so the traditional q3 …

Re: Interesting Steam releases of games?

Some big publishers' interns clumsily package their old games. Steam's Red Faction also contains the original 2001 two disc contents (with screwed timestamps of course) in addition to the installed patched-up version bumping it up a good 1.2gb for example. Maybe there's a legit use for the provided …
