Decent laptop video wasn't until the Mobility Radeon 9000. After that point, it's more of a game of "avoid the vague video capability/Intel video"

and the only 3d card that could drive on the laptop screen is probably a PowerVR PCX2 through a docking station with a PCI slot, and that's gonna be slow. 😀

Double Free (media and code) is even rarer. I can only think of OpenQuartz (which is too freaking weird for the sake of being Free) I used to have a fork of that called OQPlus and a similar project for Hexen2, but there was no interest in them because the community was mostly younger folks content …

FWIW it doesn't work on Windows 95 due to a D3D9.DLL dependency (for an OpenGL game). also i quit playing it when it was nexuiz in 2008 because some of the clan members on the team were jerks and their changes still apply to xonotic

There isn't any. The MediaGX is a cut-down Cyrix6x86MX which is already a slow processor for most 3d games to begin with.

Probably a Pentium III 800-1100 something with a Radeon 9500-9800 + 3dfx Voodoo + PowerVR PCX2 and maybe a SBPro/16/AWE64 and/or a Monstersound/Live. Disable cache on the P3 and you should be able to hit the finicky 386/486 speed mark for pure DOS (well, for the first P3's at least)

That's because the GCN cards have much better legacy D3D compatibility (than HD5/6/7/8) since the Crimson drivers which weren't available at this time. 😀

I've been using the IBM VGA font with the windows 7 command prompt for a while now and it feels much more natural. Thanks! (using VGA8 ttf scaled up, though maybe a 88.8% width VGA9 could also work to match its aspect and keeping the extra line...?)

Me definitely still has the "It's now safe to turn off your computer" screen. The blinking cursor is probably from a failed attempt at a "quick shutdown"
