There are better Pentium IVs, Northwoods are nice 😀 but even the nicest CPUs will get choked by the overdraw from lookup table use, since your fps dips may involve smoke from napalm, or steamy areas, glass or so.

I think an icon could be something simple like the letters PCem in sans-serif blue, bold italic with some transparent stripes somewhere

It was actually playable and supported 😀 as a matter of fact some terrible GF2 bugs in the beta were fixed in the final release.

It works on Voodoo3, though it's not much faster with the normal game since the Voodoo3 wasn't texture thrashing in the first place. could be a different story on Area15 and the Simpsons map though

I had to play FarCry with Forceware before 66.xx for it to not corrupt so badly on a Geforce2. (which looks alright if you don't mind water being a two stage texture shader an a lack of glossy bumpmapping in a few places, should look similar to Isle of Morg)

I think a P3 850 is fine for 2000. 2000 games didn't demand a lot, there's only a couple of heavy ones. If your laptop is too old to use Direct3D, chances are - You really really need to install some drivers - Your laptop dates prior to 2001 (around the timeframe when competent Radeon/Geforce chips started appearing for laptops)

Lack of care for CD-ROM drives will damage discs. Games do not discriminate this behavior. that said, the day my CDs stopped scratching so much is the day I stopped using MITSUMI CD-ROM drives
