The retail version is the original August 1995 release with July 1995 file dates. It was never updated.

No version of Windows 9X is recommended for DOSBox. You are purely doing so at your own risk.

Don't forget Engoo . It's based on QIP Quake and had a couple of DOS versions. The DOS version was regressed in recent revisions unfortunately, but it would be great if I ever had gotten that working again. I think you'll hate DMA design for this reason. Up until GTA IV, all of their games relied on strict 12-25hz(?) timing - going back since Blood Money. The only exception is Uniracers/Unirally.

The videos are problematic even on Win9x machines - and they're fatal on PowerVR. The manual made note of the UnrealEd VisualBasic runtime dependency issue even. I've only bothered with the AMI WinBIOS 486 at best. I never ran Win98 on it - just Win95. My computer struggles emulating a 100mhz 486 😀

Such a shame it doesn't use midi music itself but loads some second program to play music that doesn't seem to terminate properly - so this kinda limits the scope of a new DOS game against our pretty DOS machines 🙁
