Depends on what game and their demands are. I get over 330k cycles on Quake without stutter (starts stuttering around 510k cycles) on a much slower AMD processor from 2009... and if you're getting stuttering on a core i7 with just 80k cycles it surely definitely isn't your processor causing the …

but that's just due to bethesda being buggy as hell with poor memory management (especially since Skyrim is shipped as a debug build) that's like building a new computer to play Saints Row 2 only to find out it can't run it well thinking it's the fault of the computer rather than the Bethesda-level …

1998 had plenty of 16MB video cards (TNT, Banshee). There's also the AMD K6-2 500MHz. Counter-Strike first came summer 1999 and the P3, Voodoo3 and TNT2 were already in full swing. Wouldn't this work better as a hlsl/glsl postprocess shader? 😉 Also consider the 'filtering' which is an identifying characteristic to the Voodoo appearance.

Any efforts on archiving the skin and plugin database? Some of them go wayyyyyyy back and Winamp's site are the only place to find them. We can't lose those to the mists of time like we've let the loss of desktop themes and screensavers happen!

Gauntlet IV's soundtrack is a bit interesting since one instrument channel constantly modified to do two different notes (and not in an appregio kind of way), sick tricks like that...

Correct and there is indeed EMU8000 source files in there. On the GPL side, PCem has working AWE32 emulation BTW, and it requires a rom dump from your awe card to use.
