Re: Web browsing on 3.11 = NIGHTMARE

in Windows
Yeah and that 'windows 98 machine instantly compromised by conncting to today's internet' is still such a bullshit myth to me. I never had that happen ever :) Every old thing done on this board......always could be countered with "BUT WHY NOT USE WINDOWS 8 WITH MODERN COMPUTER" posts. I just see …

What if say, there was some sort of proxy wrapper that makes the web digestable for a Netscape 2.0/3.0 to handle without spewing issues? I.e. interpreting CSS layouts into tables, dumping javascript completely, stubbing out flash and ajax, turning 32-bit RGBA PNGs into websafe gifs with colorkey …

Re: Looking for shareware compilation discs. (CD or Floppy)

I've mostly seen them around the checkout counter in Computer City and COMPUSA too, though there's also sometimes shovelware collections bundled with CD-ROM drives. I do remember hangers of those SIRIUS 10 CD packs hanging too. By 1999 they're pretty much reduced to just shrinkwrapped jewelcases …

Re: The Wrapper Collection Project

Is there any SGI OpenGL for Windows DLL newer than 1.1.2? So far I have 1.1.0, 1.1.1, 1.1.2... It's really cool that it supports 8-bit color at a much higher framerate :) 1.1.0 can be found in an old Cosmo Player (and also that older 1999 CrimeCities Demo) 1.1.1 can be found in the SGI OpenGL for …

Re: OpenGL-to-Direct3D Wrapper inside Quake 3?

well... okay, so you say that quake2 supports these apis. I never said that. Nice job putting words in my mouth. you just actually proofed this a few lines before in the case of quake2. cognitive dissonance is a very serious thing in psychology. lets deal with this too. I'd like to think arrogance …

Maybe my memory is just fuzzy. XD But another thing I remember about this disc was that it had this intro FMV with like these golden gears and a pyramid or something, although I might be thinking of something else. XD Global Star definitely had 3d animated gears surrounding a pentagram... er golden …

Re: OpenGL-to-Direct3D Wrapper inside Quake 3?

in Windows
lets see one in your list: quake2. quake2 had opengl, glide, software renderer, and d3d support (maybe other apis too). Quake2, apart from the software renderer only had hardware accelerated output to OpenGL. It provided MiniGLs for 3dfx and PowerVR cards to wrap to their Glide and SGL APIs …

I was just thinking about who may have made the shareware disc I had, and I'm thinking it may have actually been AzTech Multimedia, the same company that manufactured a bunch of Soundblaster-compatible cards in the 90s. Could be. They have definitely dabbled in shovelware discs with front ends. The …

Re: The Wrapper Collection Project

That's similar to MGL where it has to be compiled in the source. It's not a standalone wrapper either - it's more of a "tie this up to a GL engine and go" wrapper and it's only for GLQuake. You can't apply it to Quake3 etc...
