You could go for s3 Trio 64V+ and Voodoo2 card combo, that was very common in the late 90s and I can speak from experience myself that was a wide compatibility range there for the software of that period. Don't bother with Riva128 - its 3d is a mess.

Instead of copying the disk contents, why not just try mounting the disc and then installing it through DOSBox? Also mount the disc every time you play Youtube has the worst guides ever, BTW. It's often less of a guide and more of a 'plz subscribe im a tenage genius here is free games' kind of thing …

and if you're paranoid about install programs and registry clutter, don't be. DOS games don't do that, and Dosbox doesn't necessarily require that either. abstracting DOSBox through a VM will just make your DOSBox experience worse. It runs fine on W7.

70.00+ started regressing lots of stuff. Try a 6x.xx version. also for the TNTs, go further back IMO, like around 12

I'd stick with system No. 1. I don't understand the 3dfx hate, but you could use these at once: - Nvidia TNT2 32MB for the standard OpenGL stuff (those id games work best with these). you'll be bottlenecked by CPU anyway, so anything better won't be much, plus you still have some of the VESA …

I'd say S3 Trio 64v+ (which is what i'm using now), but I really want to get my hands on a PCI Riva 128 or TNT. Those are apparently awesome 2D performers
