I'd like to see those cards tried on 486s. They obviously lack CPU to decode 480P MPEG2 on the fly, so a decoder card could benefit them I was skeptical of DVD in its early days. Seemed like too much hype to bother. Stuck with VHS until 2004 😜

It's more like a PCX that can do more blend modes and have better drivers. It's nowhere near Kyro's level of maturity.

Try changing all those rates to 48000 in the conf file. One of the changes between .72 and .73 (IIRC) is the default rate no longer being 22050

The Kyro had some unfixed hard locks with anything running UnrealEngine2 so its role as a gamer card was already dwindling The games it works best with happen to be very british 😀 *COUGH*Anything by Computer Artworks, Lionhead and Rage*COUGH*

Those aren't the only examples. Some of the earlier big examples are NOLF2, BF1942 and Operation Flashpoint - 2001-2002 games that made heavy reliance on hardware T&L for performance. It hangs on Super Star Wars (cancelled DOS port) after the LucasArts logo for me, for some reason. i'm only using BASSMIDI with 1mgm.sf2 (1mb soundfont), using Roland GS as the music driver in SSW. A real AWE32/64 works with this.

The VGA part is actually very good, i'd say it's the best part of it. The OpenGL ICD it ships with is slow and it really sucks. The hidden surface removal the Kyro was hyped for didn't help the PCX-2 all that much, and in real games it's hardly ever useful as the CPU still has to deal with the vertices you can't see. 7zip doesn't give you a nag on opening a file, and compressed folders don't either. Back when this was new in 2000 this was a huge convenience. :) However the 'search' of files in zips by Windows will lead into memory leaks and runaway loops though. Viper Racing is a Win32 game that uses Direct3D, doesn't need DOSBox as it already works good on Windows 7. Falcon 4 ain't a DOS game either.

There is no best. The suggestions I gave were more for the joystick. DOSBox will be fine on the latest and greatest computers. Don't downgrade for DOSBox.
