Oldest? Windows Server 2003 I'm being serious. And no, it doesn't have better gameport support, its not magically better.

I'd say 2002ish motherboards and systems are the latest safe bets to drop a Win9x setup on. Keep within 119gb. Reason why I suggest Win9x is that some devices really are designed best for that especially older gameport joysticks, and Win2000 had some massive game port regressions XP never fixed.

This is true DD2 is also a dos game on the same disc - you probably downloaded some win32 rip from a crappy abandonware site.

I use Sheepshaver for Mac OS 9.0.4. Works for me, but doesn't work on Windows 7. Expect PowerPC 100MHz speeds with it on modern systems, though.

I'd go for Win98 since gameports suck on the NT family in general (never had luck with them on 2000 and XP either). Be careful with Win98 though, it won't agree with your ram or your hard drive (do you like data loss!?) so throw that on a much older computer instead. Like, some athlon xp with 512mb …

As for floppies, I know 'resqflpy' for DOS can show the contents of each chunk it reads along a disk to the screen so you could probably run it, then point out "THIS IS WHAT IS HAPENING! YOU CANT DO THIS ON NINTENDO" or something
