When you see excessive memory consumption, navigate to about:memory and look at what is being allocated. Hopefully that will shed some light onto where the problem could be.

Never seen that.. I've got 18 tabs open with a fair amount of image content, 1 youtube playing and... memory usage is 300MB. FF 17.something

I should be clear and state openly I really don't care about performance measured by synthetic benchmarks. However, yes IE10 is fast.

All browsers have faults. FF's strength is in its add-ons; without those the browser would have most certainly died a long time ago. Chrome is quite a departure from 'old fashioned' browsing and has almost as many though different real-world issues as FF. IE is [now] fast but has few extensions and …

The G400 Max was an excellent card but didn't hold on to any advantage for very long. I owned one for some years as it was 'good enough' for what I was running but had to ditch it and drop Matrox for Nvidia for performance!

The only way around it is to fight fire with fire - snipe or be sniped. ebay should have implemented a sliding end time to prevent this issue but for whatever reason they cannot see it as a problem.

If she's already got a laptop she may be underwhelmed by a netbook unless the laptop is really heavy/old. I couldn't use a netbook seriously as the screen's are just too small. Myself I'd go looking for an 11/12" screen laptop.

Dunno when black became mainstream... bought my aluminium case in 2001 and still got it. I think equipment colours cycle - TVs/Hi-Fi equipment in black was normal then everything went silver and now mostly back to black again!
