Re: Mouse in top half of screen only in game

Collector - yes my card is the very 1st version of the G400. I remember it being a long wait and rather expensive  guest (whoever u r!) - thx for the heads up with DOSBox. I'm playing GK1 under it now (never did complete it before) and didn't think to try out CCS with 0.60! Thanks all for …

Re: help

Assuming atlantis is a DOS game (is this Indiana Jones & the Fate of Atlantis? If so, skip VDMSound and use SCUMMVM Back to VDMSound... Depending on the version of VDMSound you've installed, Launchpad is either an add-on or built-in. Either way Launchpad is a Windows shell extension that is active …

Re: MT-32 Emulator and DOSBox Problems

Something for canadacow: When trying to run GK1 or LSL3, DOSBox is failing with the following error: 00:00:27.680: First chance exception 0xC0000005 (Access Violation) occurred in "c:\games\dosbox-0.60\DOSBOX.EXE" at address 0x00435931 by thread 1. 00:00:27.680: Second chance exception 0xC0000005 ( …

Re: DOSbox and Virtual PC 2004

MS didn't buy VPC to allow people to play 'crappy' DOS games :) They are more interested in business applications for which the compatability issues are much less. VPC is a non issue in the games world. For a start it's not exactly cheap and even when you have it, it doesn't exactly do much for the …

Re: Using Mt32 emulator with VDMSSound - bad sound

I ran throught the DirectX diagnostics tool (Music Tab) and tested DirectMusic through all of the listed ports. The MT32 Synth Emulator was the only device that produced the 'noise' as can be heard on my WAV download. All other devices sounded fine (as did all of the DirectSound tests). Yes, agreed …

Re: Error in AbandonLoader

I guess you didn't have a PC when it was just DOS? The game is probably referring to a lack of conventional RAM (0-640K). Search the forum/web for details on this and how to configure your DOS environment to have as much as possible. VDMSound uses some of this RAM so it *might* be that the game will …

Re: Using Mt32 emulator with VDMSSound - bad sound

Thx for the replies guys! I tried it out on my works PC (dual P3-Xeon with o/b sound) and it worked much better. Maybe my home soundcard/configuration isn't quite as healthy as I thought it was? I'd seen that the Windows driver was out of date when compared to the DOSBox snapshot... but that didn't …

Using Mt32 emulator with VDMSSound - bad sound

I'm trying to run the MT32 emulator Windows driver with VDMS (latest V2.10). The sound made is terrible (2MB WAVE file) If you listen to the WAV file, you can just about tell that there is a definite attempt to play the correct tune but something is not quite doing as it should! I've configured the …

Re: Gabriel knight 1

If you're a bit short of CPU power (as I am as I've only got a P3 1Ghz), set DOSBox to frameskip of 1. Together with cycles set to 7722, I've got GK1 running very well with VESA mode )the DOS version with VESA has the same graphics quality as the Windows version, so you'll notice the inventory items …

Hi Snover & Co. Sorry, but I'm really not getting on with the new skin :( I didn't post immediately but thought I'd see what I felt like after a few visits.... it's no better - arghhhh! I ddn't love the old one but it was clear and readable. I'm not sure of phpBB's capabilities but can you not …

Re: Ultimate Build

I know my name's not Snover.... Vid card - maybe Snover has an nVidia preference (as do most people it would seem). Sound card - if it's all games then Audigy 2. If music as well then M-Audio does a real neat card for a few £'s (or $'s) more.

Re: Ultimate Build

64bit CPUs for the desktop are a complete and utter waste of time for a few years yet. Sure, AMD's kludge chip may be faster than the P4-EE but how much cheaper c/would it be without the 64 bit capability?! I've absolutely no need for over 2GB of process RAM space on my desktop - none whatsoever! On …

Re: DOTT in Dosbox, can't save

in DOS
is it just me or does anyone else find it strange why people don't choose the best tools for the job? SCUMMVM is the best bet for Lucasarts (& now some others) adventure games. Don't get me wrong, DOSBox is a fantastic piece of software just I go with whatever works best!

Re: Gabriel Knight 1

I don't think you'll get GK1 working under 2K/XP. I'm sure there have been posts here that say the game doesn't work (do a search). The Windows version works (with known issues) so that's your best option.
