DOSBox outputs pixels, not characters like a "normal" terminal window. You could change fonts inside the emulation, though i'm not sure how this works. Tools like WBAT for example seem to use some kind of custom font.

some games support gus, but not general midi/roland that is what gus emulation is for Examples? I can imagine GUS-only demos because the GUS was quite big in the demo scene IIRC. But games? Not "core" and "cputype", but "core" and "cycles". Terms like "smooth", "nice" and "perfect" are subjective, so you're down to playing around with the values until you find what looks good to you. Never had to, but i've looked at it before posting above reply. Disc swapping is not explained in that guide. No wonder, as the guide doesn't explain the "imgemount" command at all.

There's no API, but you can pass parameters via the "autoexec" section in dosbox.conf, or create a batch that you call via "autoexec" and which then runs in DOSBox.

Using a source port like D2X-XL is probably easier than getting the game to work in DOSBox, especially when you're not very proficient at using DOS and DOSBox. Plus you get additional features like higher resolution graphics, configurable controls, etc. .

Look at the dates of those compat list comments, they're ancient. Just play around with the cycles settings until you find the "sweet spot". You can change cycles while DOSBox is running, see the DOSBox readme for instructions.
