Re: Beta Testers?

Anybody find any problems with this latest release? It seems to work fine on all versions of DOS windows that I have access too. I'm starting work on the readme.txt file, and thinking about setting a final (non beta,) release. Would like to know if anyone has found any problems or has any …

Re: Beta Testers?

A couple of bug fixes: When sorting by date, the year was having high bits truncated (all but the lowest 6 bits.) So, the year (the most significant sort aspect,) was being broken up into 64 year cycles (1900 - 1964, 1965 - 2028, etc...) This would have gone totally unnoticed except the 2107 files …

Re: Beta Testers?

That is good news. I will be trying it out in the days ahead. And have to remember to verify the functioning of redirect output to file. Thanks a lot for all the effort so far. I usually use one of these three to compile programs myself: Windows x86: Visual Studio 2005 express or GNU GCC, then for …

Re: Beta Testers?

Finally getting down to the end I hope. Other than building a "formal" release package (with readme, etc...) and some minor tweaks, I think I've finally got it all worked out. Got it reading files with bad date-stamps (still going to track down what caused that on my files.) The color seems to be …

Re: Cycle adjustment

Why not set the cycles to 500, then use the "warp speed" (my term,) mode to get past the slow start. I believe it defaults to F12, though I may have changed it to that long ago and forgot. You could hit F1 to bring up the keymap and check "Speedlock" to see what it is set too if you need. I know I …

Re: Beta Testers?

A couple of minor fixes. Had the LFN measurement system off by 1 character, so a 8 character file name was acting like a 9 etc... Also, quite by accident discovered a bug in the time calculation routine. A file with a bad time stamp could crash the program. I kept getting a "D.exe has stopped …

Re: Beta Testers?

Ok, think I have the color fixed in Win95. Had to basically go back and do what I did with the DOS version and manually set the color for every bloody character that prints.... Of course, with DOS, it makes more sense as I'm writing directly to text RAM for the color changes. But, that was the only …

Re: Beta Testers?

Yeah, sorry to say that in a normal windows 95 installation it is like this too: Some sizes and filenames take the wrong color. Other then that, it lists the files in the 'c:\windows' and 'c:\windows\system' folders without complaining. Ok, back to debugging then :/ Going to take a nap first though …

Re: Beta Testers?

I can test it a bit in windows 95 if you like. Is that DC420.zip? Yes, the other two are old versions I'm just leaving up in case someone doesn't want the dual version. I might re-compile those later as individuals if someone wants just the single versions (from the revised code.) But all my work …

Re: Frustrating Compile Issues :(

When I'm ready to start hammering at code again, I'll look into Mercurial, never actually worked with the system before. Thanks for the tip. I'm afraid that I'd really only want to work with SDL_Sound with MP3 support, as I do all my work with MIDI and MP3 files (wonder if there's a MIDI patch …

Re: Beta Testers?

Ok, sorry about the delay, ran into a problem with another bit of code I'm working on in the middle of reinstalling my system. Got the minor fix in place. As far as I can tell with brief testing, it works great in Win7-64bit, works great in DOSBox, works great in VPC DOS boot. Still having problems …

Re: Frustrating Compile Issues :(

BTW - compiles great now, everything seems to work too :) I'm not sure about zlib, don't know how to test that. Zlib is used by the video capture functionality, so you can test it by capturing some video. Ok, had Zlib wrong. Sorry it took me so long to respond, when it failed, I started over from …

Re: Frustrating Compile Issues :(

There seem to be standard naming schemes in source repositories, INSTALL, CHANGELOG, README, etc... Everyone accustomed to sources knows where to look ;) Yeah, but I'm a complete amateur... I took one half of a single course in programming in college, the decided I didn't have the patience for it. …

Re: Frustrating Compile Issues :(

Ooh, I didn't see that... Is this listed somewhere, some instructions I missed? If so, apologies to all concerned. It's mentioned in INSTALL. Ah, there it is. Just out of curiosity, why the instruction files without file types? I see a .txt (or .doc, .me, .1st, .diz, etc....) file, I know to read …

Re: Frustrating Compile Issues :(

Please totally disregard my second issue. Text mode was wonky, and resizing was broken for a while there (didn't know ddraw was broken,) led to some incorrect conclusions. Once I've gotten sdl lib set up again, this whole issue will be over. Thanks all, sorry to have been a bother.
