Id go for a Geforce 3 or 4ti series card youd be able to run some directx 8 games like Max Payne, the horsepower would help none the less.

I've watched all 3 of the despecialised versions and they are great, incredible how it looks considering the 720 resolution of episode 4 but then again its 17 gigabytes, goes to show how resolution is not the be all end all.

128Meg of ram in a 1999 "Dream Machine"? I would have thought you'd at least 256meg, I remember having ram problems in 2000 when having multiple browsers open with 128meg surely 256meg would have been useful in 99 for some people.

Has anyone done high end svga testing with a Northwood 3.06ghz on a 845 chipset board? These motherboards are quite prevalent and probably the best value for a high end svga performance and isa sound card support.

For the record, I found better dos performance with a Geforce FX5200/5500 but either way its not going to make much difference what video card you use in windows because the cpu is so underpowered. The only real solution is to get a Pentium 2 overdrive 333 cpu, I can run Quake 3 at around 30-35fps …

That benchmark was using the Pentium 2 Overdrive @ 5x70mhz = 350mhz, Intel PR440FX The ram If I remember correctly was 45ns EDO 128meg sticks.

I think someone got higher benchmark scores with a 386DX-40 using the EISA bus, from what I recall if you can get VLB working it wont make much if any difference at all.

I've had success increasing the dos video performance on my PR440FX @ 350mhz, I switched the video card to an Nvidia FX5500 128bit 256MB. The quake demo3 performance was only 16.1fps without fastvid running 640x480 fullscreen minus 2, running fastvid the score increases to 28.6 it runs very nice …

So 18.5fps with a 386-dx40 in 3dbench hey? That's the best score ive seen with that cpu good work! Like the other guys said id be interested in pcpbench/doom benchmarks and also if you can overclock the 386 to 50mhz, ill have to keep an eye out for eisa 386 motherboards nowm

Any chance of a 3dmark 2001 benchmark with a dx9 card? I suppose any of the Geforce 5 series or ATI 9000s will max the score out, I'm getting around 1,800 on my machine.
