I remember having trouble getting sound effects working back in the day and now I am having trouble with a 386DX40 with a Soundblaster Pro. I remember getting the sound effects to work but I cant remember how, is their a way to configure the base port/IRQ/DMA? cheers.

The point is the platform so you could upgrade the cpu to potentially a 1.4hz Tualatin.

Youve probably got your heart stuck on scsi but I have an enhanced future domain controller and its fast, for instance it loads Doom/2 almost as fast as my 5x86 class machines using their onboard ide controllers, this is using a 386DX/40

Ive used this type of board with a UMC chipset and every single vlb video card has failed to work, I believe the controller cards did work.

Get anything thats NIB/New old stock as crts wear out over time, ive got 2 black 17" ibm crts from about 2005/6 and they look fantastic as they were boxed and never used, its a good size for 320x200 up to 1024x768.

Get the pci board, gives you option of using any socket 3 processor + a wide variety of pci devices. Otherwise id pick the top vlb board

To keep it simple I'd just get a AWE64/AWE32 and it gives you the option of adding an external midi module(MT-32/SC55)without the bugs of earlier soundblasters.
