I guess the Celeron 700 is bandwidth starved with its 66MHz FSB while the P2-400 can actually move more data through its 100MHz bus. So it may be the bottleneck. It's like the Celeron could calculate more frames, it is indeed a faster CPU on the inside, but it just can't get the data to calculate …

It POSTs as "unknown CPU" but works fine otherwise. I can't tell if there's any problem with SSE, though. But it should be initialized by the OS anyway so BIOS support is not that important.

Forget about the 768KiB: that board has a SIPP socket! I've never even dared to try 🤣 Mostly because I couldn't see the point. Even the DIPs are too much 😁 (I'm not even sure it's really a SIPP socket. Maybe. Probably...?)

...but I have a tiny late XT clone too: Yes, more memory anomaly here: it has 768kB of RAM (+parity) but of course only 640kB is visible.

My first overclock was the AMD 5x86-133@160. But it wasn't very stable so I usually ran it at 150 (or even less). Fractint runs on a vanilla 8088, with or without 8087. 14.0 surely does. Perhaps even the newest ones do.
