Re: The death of single-player games

in Milliways
" The single-player game is a strange mutant monster which has only existed for 21 years and is about to go away because it is unnatural and abnormal. " Excuse me?! Since when have we all stopped enjoying SP games? " Modern market research data shows that the myth of the solitary gamer bathing in …

Re: Weird audio volume problem in Windows XP

in Milliways
Totally agree with you, dh4rm4! It's quite strange how this only happens with midi files while using any player. If one changes volume of the player while listening mp3/wav files, it only affects the player's volume, leaving the system's intact. But if you do that while listening to a midi, it …

Re: Weird audio volume problem in Windows XP

in Milliways
What I mean is, first of all, you should set the volume of all your players to 70% (example) and make sure the players assume the changes but don't play any audio yet. Once that is done, go to the volume control panel and define master and midi volume to the same level you defined for the players ( …

Re: Weird audio volume problem in Windows XP

in Milliways
Good thing I was caught in the middle of some DOSBox testing, so I've tried the following : In Media Player Classic, only if a manual change to volume while playing MIDI files, the volume control panel would reflect the change. Testing with video(w/sound), mp3 and wave files only changed the …

Re: Crazy idea for DOSBox!!! Is it possible?

I agree with wd. If it's publicly available, there's always a chance that enough people like the concept and try to improve it. With any luck, it could even turn out to be something quite good! @ ninjalj : Indeed! ACPI can't be used in older hardware, as it would lack support for it. "The ACPI BIOS …

Re: Crazy idea for DOSBox!!! Is it possible?

MiniMax, you're a mind reader! As for the implementation of the idea, have to admit I suck bigtime at programming/coding/etc.! I'm usually a better tester with a keen eye to details... Also enjoy the practical/logical side of things! Well, the concept is out in the wild... If anyone finds it …

Re: Crazy idea for DOSBox!!! Is it possible?

Thanks for the tip, dh4rm4! I never actually used any frontends so far, cause all my testing is still done the "good old fashioned" way : notepad + dosbox.conf , as the file itself is very well organized and it's filled with programmer comments that allow any user (at least one with previous …

Re: Crazy idea for DOSBox!!! Is it possible?

DosFreak, It's obviously more useful and relevant for the DOSBox team to spend time improving it's stability, performance and compatibility than making a cosmetic change. Still, did you noticed me saying it's just an idea and not a request? As it seems, I'm not sure you understood it completely (my …

Re: Crazy idea for DOSBox!!! Is it possible?

First of all, this is not to be taken as a request... I'm not saying it would do something that dosbox.conf doesn't already do. It's just a curiosity! If maybe (in a distant future) such a feature was implemented, it would be more user friendly, as it would allow a noob to access a BIOS-like GUI and …

Crazy idea for DOSBox!!! Is it possible?

Since DOSBox emulates pretty much a whole PC on it's own, would it eventually be possible to turn it into an actual PC? An example, when you turn on your PC, it starts the P.O.S.T. routine and you can have access to the B.I.O.S. and configure all the machine settings... What if DOSBox had (sort of) …

Re: NBA Jam Tournament Edition

I'd really like to have the original CD, but I can't find it anywhere for sale. :depressed: Wish I could find a way to fix this.... [ EDIT ] Good news! I've spent the last few days hunting for CD versions of my favorite games (quite a few!) and I got NBA JAM TE from Amazon!!! Funniest thing …

Re: NBA Jam Tournament Edition

I'm sorry if my english wasn't perfect, it's not my native language  What I would like to know if this anyone else has this problem ( every player's faces in the team select screen looking exactly the same, regardless of the team )? I remember playing the same game in real DOS (a few years ago …

NBA Jam Tournament Edition issue [ SOLVED ]

Haven't found topics about this game and the compatibility database only mentions something I've already tested : the game only works with DOS32A instead of normal DOS4GW, otherwise the screen goes black and hangs right after the "enter initials for record keeping" screen (after choosing "new game") …

Re: Screamer 1 Setup.exe problems

in DOS
@ wd : in DOSBox 0.70 the Screamer setup.exe does work... Only problem is it usually works only once per DOSBox session ( at the first attempt it will run, but every second attempt causes the screen to go black and hangs ). Only by running DOSBox again one can execute the setup file again...
