Re: Want your start menu back in Windows 8?

in Milliways
Doubt the fixed it in 8.1, but Windows 8 messed up all the registry entries for MIDI selection. So, no the tools that worked in WIndows 7 did not work in 8. It has been a while since I fooled around with it, so things may have been fixed in 8.1.

Re: Want your start menu back in Windows 8?

Main reasons I want to get rid of Windows 8 are the following: 1) Pathetic support for MIDI, setting up BASSMIDI, MUNT and my own Roland SC-7 has been a pain 2) Compatibility with older games and full-screen speed I had to play an RPG Maker game in a small window because fullscreen was running at …

Re: Want your start menu back in Windows 8?

Start menu is coming back in August. I personally use StartisBack over Start8, I think it's a bit more customizable. No matter though, since I'm going back to Windows 7 when I get the chance (i.e when I finish my backlog games that I'm too bored to backup).

Re: Has anyone here built a Kaveri box?

I think the main problem with Kaveri is pricing. 7850k is just too expensive. Generally speaking, Bulldozer is leading nowhere, even AMD knows it that's why they don't seem to be releasing any Steamroller chips for AM3+. Their latest project (x86 + ARM) is interesting to say the least. I think in …

Honestly, 7850k is just too damn expensive for its own good. You can get an Athlon II that's a little bit slower and a faster videocard at that price. 7850k's GPU performance with fast DDR3 memory will be equal to a 7750 GDDR3. The 45W/65W part (7600 I think) is far more interesting to me. Generally …

Re: Baking Video Cards

It works. I've revived some cards, although they will AFAIK go bad eventually. I have baked a 8800GTS 512 twice because of this. My 4850 is working fine though and it's been far longer since I baked that.

Re: MultiBoot problem

Ah, so I just reinstall and then use repair? Seems easy enough, hope nothing breaks in the process. EDIT: Cool, everything seems to be in order, thanks for the answers 😀.

Re: MultiBoot problem

Good call. Unfortunately, it didn't work 🙁. I should mention I've run chkdsk with no errors. I'm guessing it's FUBAR. How can I easily replace the partition without anyone noticing 😜?

MultiBoot problem

in Milliways
Yo, I have this fairly recent Core2Duo machine set up for a lot of uses. It has 2 HDDs and 4 partitions. One partition hosts Windows XP, another Windows 7 and another Kali Linux and I have GRUB set up to manage all of these easily. Selecting Windows XP is done through the Windows 7 Boot Loader. This …
