I don't know of any easily available soundcard that has a full MPU onboard (unless you count the SCC-1 and LAPC-I ?) It's just worn out monitors or *most likely* poorly stored ones before they end up in your hands. Had the same with 1084 monitor , I repaired several of them until I built my healthy stock. I would keep getting vga monitors they are cheap (at least here) so after 2-3 failures you'll get a good one …

Yes the upgrade clips on top of the 386sx cpu just like the previous one. ATM I don't have any other "normal" 386SX mobos to test it except a 386sx33 SBC that I must invest a couple of hrs to test... I don't think the upgrade is damaged, a dead cpu would just result in a blank screen not error codes …

^ yeah that is also true! I just don't use it anymore and don't bother with issues... it also helps that I can use UMB blocks on my systems with either TheLastByte or URAM or UMBPCI so loading the microsoft mouse is really a non-issue
