PTS-DOS seems interesting... it seems the last versions is "PTS-DOS 32" , 2000 version seems to be older with added network support/tools but missing FAT-32 support... is this correct?

yeah, it was for the best that you cleaned it I have opened my MU80 , IIRC mine had a battery with fixed pins so I would have to remove it completely and replace it. It did not have a holder like the SC-55s...

That was actually glue that they use to fix the larger caps for added safety. If you scroll at the previous images posted here you will see the same glue in better state. Replacing/cleaning doesn't hurt though 😊

It's not a good idea to run tools that don't expect FAT32/LFNs on a FAT32 system.... you can grab scandisk from 98SE for your error repairs and a 3rd party utility to defrag if needed. I've been using DOS from 98SE in standalone-mode for 10+ years now, haven't found programs other than the ones …

I seem to recall that by editing some paths in a cfg file (dagger.ini ?) you can make the game work without a cd , maybe that's something to investigate?

L2 cache shouldn't cause any errors unless it's faulty or configured incorrectly. Set the jumpers to 256k and see what happens

I have found it's not the hardware that has issues but the software, it's the same deal as some games running OK and others running insanely fast on newer systems. When it comes to sound the card might not get detected or play garbage.
