I did a quick test with Phil's bench suite, nothing strange to report brostenen , the test matrix gdjacobs mentions is the way to go 😁

I was gifted this Trident Blade3D vga, no idea if it's any good: edit: it's 8MB and DOS/2D performance is in the range of S3 Trio64v cards... maybe it has some interesting 3D capabilities but I am not that curious to find out 🤣

What rom version your SC-55 has Jolaes? is it 1.20 ? I have tried exchanging the ROMS between my 1.10 and 1.21 units and neither worked. IIRC the control cpus are different between them so they cannot run each other's program rom... kinda sad if you ask me.

Cheapest would be a Cirrus Logic card - it will get the job done - get something from the 5424 and above models. WDC90C3x would be faster but it's really weird when it comes to screenmodes/depth, 1MB should do 640x480/256 just fine though. I cannot remember if Tseng4000 cards are having issues or …

- if you are talking ISA then get a Cirrus Logic or a WDC card, they work fine - if you mean PCI/AGP then you can't go wrong with an S3/Cirrus or even an nvidia card these are the most common/cheapest compatible options

Maybe the card can't be used with anything more than a 386/486 - it's not uncommon. The Yamaha SW-20PC also has severe issues with anything above 486, *if* one is really really lucky maybe he can set it up on a p1 machine but anything above that is always troublesome without solution. I have this ESS card: works fine with everything but I prefer the SB16 🤣 - still not a bad card and I like it better than crystal/opti solutions

The wolf3d door sound is a soundcard test I do when I get a non-sb card... most of the times it just cuts off, ie you only hear the first part of the sample. I also found this is true to several old SB clones (chinese clones - not compatible name chipsets like opti/crystal etc)

I am pretty sure this Q demo also uses the Motorola 56001 DSP chip that is present in all Falcons, this is not just optimized 030 code . Still a great job though
