IMHO the best way would be to peel off the eprom labels up to the point you can read the eprom's part number , only this is a 100% sure way

What a strange directory name to use... surely a remnant from the amiga where dos naming restrictions do not apply (sometimes even modern windows can't handle amiga file/dir names 🤣) Maybe someone can patch the game and replace the 0x7F character with something more compatible in the meantime 😀

That's just glue on the bottom of the large cap - a common practice when manufacturing the unit. There is no need to worry about it. btw, did you actually removed the battery and looked at the bottom side?

S3 and Cirus are great choices for what you ask - they were sold by the millions and virtually got support everywhere. Personally I'd use the VirgeDX card , an excellent and compatible choice.

I'd say a Virge card like the one mentioned above or a riva128 , both work wonders for DOS.

^ supposedly gmfull1m.ff8 should be on the updated version of the CD that came with GUS PnP cards , haven't been able to locate it though yet

It sure is... I don't have a SC-88 else I'd read the eprom so you can compare. This is just a case of searching until you find the fault , a very tricky situation.
