It wouldn't surprise me if this card is a windows-only one intended for serious work (btw is that a metronome output in the bracket?) and needs it's own driver so it works 100%

Anything that seems to me that might be damaged by water or that can hold water inside them . Motherboards/vga/soundcards don't have such components, I just remove anything that is socketed. For other stuff look at this recent picture: http://i.imgur.com/Adryq5r.jpg that's a monitor control board …

I do my pcb washing in my office all the time... Naturally I remove batteries/fans/ socketed stuff and even desolder components I think are sensitive. Then tap water cleaning using a toothbrush and dish-washing soap, the board goes a trip to the industrial air compressor and gets blasted with …

well, for retro reasons you don't need the A model (meaning the ICSP port - there is a hack to convert the CS to A model btw ;) ) or all these expensive adapters. A single CS and a couple of PLCC adapters will cost 60-70$ and you can get adapters on a per-need basis. All programmers mentioned here …

@Tetrium nah, rom burning is easy if you make sure the programmer supports the device you want to burn and you have the needed adapter (IF necessary). I have both a GQ-3X and the 866CS , both need adapters for some bigger eproms (or eproms that are not DIP sized) but the 866CS does not need external …

@Evert Don't forget to measure the original capacitor dimension, most important is the diameter - so when you order the replacements you can get the same or smaller and they fit easily.
