some vgas have some "autodetect" feature on my virge2gx if the vga cable is not fully plugged it can go to b/w mode without a vga cable plugged the system will beep like there is no video card installed! annoying 🤣 so I assume that the vga "autodetects" a b/w monitor because of the kvm used

did you try the MIDI IN B port? for starters just connect the UM_OUT to 88_IN port cable, there is no need for a 2nd cable for playback maybe try and do a factory reset on the 88VL unit - it can happen the previous owner had configured it to his own setup

Well I do not expect much in terms of performance increase, the 486slc was used by amstrad as a selling gimmick because it had 486 in the name... benchmarks will show good improvement due to that 1kb of internal cache but real-life performance is not that drastically different. Some news on my side. I managed to dump the BIOS of the PC7486SLC80 using another method as the NSSI one proved not to be reliable (it only dumps a part of it). I removed both high and low BIOS chips and used a TL866II-Plus to dump their contents. Both chips were properly identified by keropi as …

I use RTL8019 cards: maybe not the fastest but: - easily located DOS packet driver - NDIS/3 wfw3.11 driver meaning there is no need to preload anything in DOS to get networking going - works in either 8bit or 16bit slots I am sure there are also other cards with the same advantages but RTL8019 cards …
