@Robin4 even if you manage to heat the mobo so much , there is nothing important nearby... not even an IC to damage 😉 if you use some extra paste as wee then you are all set! just my 2 cents... I'm gonna add that 1085 tomorrow and see what happens...

well, I have a very similar board, a spare LT1085 , a multimeter, wick, pins, a 3.3v cpu and a sense of adventure... LOL I might try that tomorrow evening, restore the pins + LT and measure the cpu voltage... what would be a good point to measure what goes in the 486cpu other than the output from …

Can you try that chip in maybe another 386 board that has Cache? Also this CPU has L1 cache right? Make sure it is enabled, either in the BIOS or through software. Can't try it in another mobo , it needs a 386sx to clip on and I don't have another 386sx mobo... (nor planning to get one, not much …

3dbench2 is also not the tool to measure performance on the 486slc2 machine I am testing... when the internal 1kb L1 cache is disabled I get 21.4fps , with the 1kb enabled (that REALLY improves performance) I get 11.2fps... it's still buggy :\ (buy comparison with PCPBench: 1kb=OFF 1.1fps / 1kb=ON …

I am currently benching Quake on my IBM PS/1pro machine, it is a cacheless 386sx/20 wonder that is upgraded with a 486slc2/40mhz , i387 fpu and 16MB IBM ram... so you have actually found the missing part? an LT1085? I just checked 2 486 mobos from my dead pile, one has a 1085CT next to to the voltage pins (sis based) and the other is hardwired to 5v with a missing spot that is labeled "LT1085CT" 😈

That Texas Instruments board should be a lot faster in CPU tests than a 386SX-16. That was the whole point of the 486SLC/DLC lines, to improve CPU performance in 386SX/DX based systems over what came with them. I can't believe that it doesn't run any faster. You need a 9v DC adapter with a CENTER NEGATIVE polarity as it was pointed out by the previous gents. You can use the same PSU as the megadrive mk1 , the mt-32 even the SC-55. As long as it is a negative center one and has enough mA it would work. Basically I'm just agreeing with what was posted …
