nope, it's only used for the internal clock... you can remove it and use a coin cell battery instead (you also need a diode) but not having it at all does not break anything... it;s not like you will store your documents and need dates 😀

Mystery , check under the trapdoor at the bottom , there must be a 512kb memory expansion. remove it and see if it has those dreaded barrel-shaped batteries, if it has one then just remove it with a pair of pliers or something, they leak and spill acid on the board. I have tested several riva128 cards and all were vesa3.0 compliant, the Duke3d high-res modes worked as-is, no need for a tsr. I don't see why the tnt2 would want a tsr, unless nvidia cheaped out and cut off the bios extensions?

because of this thread I tried tombraider on a p2 system with a Mystique 1064/2MB I was gifted... wish the card was a 4MB one 🙁

My PS1/pro has a built-in VGA too, but when I install another on the ISA bus (a cirus logic one, they work on dave3 fine btw) it gets used and overrides the onboard one... maybe you can resort to that as a last option...

since you can fit an Amiga 500 or a 1200 in a FPGA I don't see the reason why a 286/386 pc won't be doable...
