I have tried megamid and midplay, both pimped dos midi players ... I get the same results as the small playmid (from FM software, found here: http://www.queststudios.com/roland/utilities.html ) so maybe it does sound like that...

on this topic, what is a good DOS midi player that will successfully play both of Roland's MTGM.MID and CMR-SFX.MID ? When I play CMR-SFX.MID with playmid I think it does something very wrong as percussion is lost on my lapc-i.... Also I see that DUMP works for reseting the card so I guess I am OK …

That was a pci v1.0 non busmaster capable slot. could be (manual says it shares resources with the 1st PCI slot), but what is the single VLB slot that is marked as "slave" too? IIRC those triple-bus mobos where a huge hack, VLB was almost useless but I am curious to know what cards might work on …

Just tried the turbo switch connector... Norton SysInfo gave the cpu a score of 287 and with turbo disables this goes to ~150 ... I was hoping it would go even lower but that's what I get for installing a 5x86/133mhz 🤣

AFAIK TNTx cards already have a VBE3.0 bios. Never had a problem running dos-svga stuff with either a riva128 or a voodoo3 , since their bioses are vbe3.0 they just work... you don't need any univbe-like utility for them

I too think a pci vga would be a waste for the system... it will be an improvement over onboard for sure but I would only bother with one IF I could get one cheap... paying 50+$/€ for a "modern" pci vga is just wasted money imho
