As topic, name the game + conventional reqs! for me it is Dangerous Dave 3 , it needs 605,000 bytes of free conventional memory in order to work with sound (570k without). What others you came across? 😕

yeah, I tried it in the meanwhile, and I reverted back to winDOS98se 😀 maybe I will try Malik's suggestions like qhimem ps: I see there is a newer shsucdx version, shcdx33c.zip located here: http://freedos.pri.ee/files/dos/shsucdx/

Is DBLBUFF.SYS needed in a pure DOS setup with IDE?

I am puzzled about the need of DBLBUFF.SYS ... Assuming a user only uses DOS on a pc that has only the onboard IDE controller, is there a need to load DBLBUFF.SYS too? All I could find is: The Dblbuff.sys device driver is used to perform double buffering which is required to provide compatibility …

.... damn.... before ms released the GNU version of MSDOS7.10 , there was an unofficial build of it that was taken from win98se cd.... too bad I did not grab it back then 🤣

I will give UMBPCI a shot, but I am really using a SIS based mobo (Asus 4SAW2) with pci/vlb/isa and a 486/100 cpu...

right.... the ; before the sb16 stuff means they don't get loaded, the way they are now they don't load or affect free mem... the 2-part cdrom driver consumes 11kb of ram, hardly an overkill :lol the thing that takes the MOST ram by far is DOS itself, as I write in my 1st post, it consumes 27kb. @ …
