No, 386DX and 386SX processors usually need different motherboards due to the different data bus widths. (I suppose there might be hybrid boards available but I don't think they'd be very common). This is why a 386DX needs 4 30pin SIMMs to make a bank but a 386SX only needs two.

Software has to be explicitly written to support EMS. Some games do (X-Wing is one immediately comes to mind) but many of these won't run very well on a 286 anyway. If your games/software don't use EMS then about the only thing its good for is a RAM disk.

I believe the CT2900 has the YMF289 and to my ears it sounds identical to a CT2800 which has the YMF262

Well under Win95 you don't need the DOS drivers in autoexec.bat or config.sys (unless you are restarting in MS-DOS mode) Download and install the windows 95 drivers and you can go through device manager to change the IO address settings.

I assume you are using DOS as your operating system, not Windows? Do you have any other sound devices in your PC? IIRC the CT2800 doesn't have a jumper for MIDI, only a jumper to set the base IO address... it's all done through diagnose.exe

I believe the problem with the Rev 0 cards stems from the fact that Chuck(G) used National Semiconductor brand GAL chips while I was using Lattice chips. There was one I saw on ebay recently, an AWE64 with CD and instruction manual. The CD/manual were for an AWE64 but the card was obviously an AGP video card, probably a TNT/TNT2 or something by the looks of it.

Yeah I spent a while working out on a piece of paper which way to crimp the plugs until I finally figured out that there was no way around it apart from just swapping each pair on the cable.
